Bicyclist Hospitalized After Morrison Bridge Hit-and-Run Crash

Portland authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of a white pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a bicyclist Sunday morning on the Morrison Bridge.

The collision occurred around 8:29 a.m., during the city’s annual Bridge Pedal event, when Portland Police Bureau officers from Central Precinct and the Traffic Division responded to reports of a vehicle-versus-bicycle crash midspan on the bridge. Although the Bridge Pedal had closed eastbound lanes, the westbound lanes where the crash occurred remained open to regular traffic.

Upon arrival, officers found an adult male bicyclist with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency medical services transported the man to a nearby hospital for treatment. According to a family member, the bicyclist had been en route to participate in the Bridge Pedal but was not involved in the event at the time of the crash.

Driver Fled Scene After Brief Stop

Investigators believe the bicyclist was traveling westbound in the left (center) lane of the bridge when the suspect vehicle, a Toyota Tundra pickup truck, struck him from behind, throwing him to the pavement. The driver of the truck reportedly pulled alongside the injured man, stopped briefly, and then fled the scene without offering assistance or contacting authorities.

Officers conducted an immediate search for the vehicle but were unable to locate it. The suspect truck is described as a white Toyota Tundra 4-door crew cab with black wheels, a black or missing left side gas cap, and no license plates. It appeared dirty, with items in the bed, and may have sustained front grille damage in the collision.

The driver is described as a taller, middle-aged white or Hispanic man who is bald. Police have released an image of the vehicle, altered to protect the privacy of the victim.
