Sheriff’s office investigates deadly overnight shooting at Chinook Landing Marine Park

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly overnight shooting at Chinook Landing Marine Park in the Columbia River area, near Fairview and Troutdale. Deputies responded around 12:30 a.m. Thursday after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrived within about 10 minutes and began searching the park after they initially did not see any victims. A deputy said the search expanded from the parking lot into the surrounding area, with help from a canine team and a Portland Police Bureau drone. Investigators later found an adult who was dead at the scene.

The person’s identity has not been released. The sheriff’s office said shell casings were recovered at the park, and much of the park remained closed Thursday morning while deputies and patrol vehicles processed the area.

Investigators said they believe witnesses may have important information. Deputy John Plock said a number of people were in the park when the shooting happened, though most did not stay. The sheriff’s office asked anyone who saw part of the incident, or who has information about what happened, to call the MCSO tip line at 503-988-0560 and reference case number 26-34454.

The sheriff’s office said it does not believe there is an ongoing danger to the public. Investigators have not explained that assessment, and the case remains active.
