Deputies find one gunshot fired at Clackamas Town Center theater

Clackamas County deputies responded to Clackamas Town Center on Thursday night after a report of possible gunshots. The sheriff’s office said no one was injured and there was no threat to the public.

According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies searched the movie theater and found evidence that a single gunshot had been fired. The theater reopened after the search. One person was briefly detained, then released after deputies determined the person had no connection to the incident.

Witnesses told KATU they saw a heavy police presence at the mall. Some said they heard more than a dozen gunshots and evacuated while there to see the new Spider-Man movie. KATU reported that calls to the newsroom started shortly before 11 p.m., and a reporter was sent to the scene.

For people at a crowded shopping center, even a report of gunfire can trigger a fast evacuation and confusion about where to go. If someone is hurt in a similar incident, medical care, witness names, and any video from a phone or security camera can matter later in an insurance claim or civil case.

The sheriff’s office said nobody was arrested in connection with the report. The available information points to a single shot inside the theater, while witness accounts described a much larger burst of gunfire.
