Driver Identified Following Deadly Crash into the Columbia River

Portland authorities have identified the driver who lost his life in a single-vehicle crash that ended with his vehicle submerged in the Columbia River. Guillermo Soto Briceno, 43, of Portland, was confirmed by the Medical Examiner’s Office as the individual killed in the August 2 incident near Northeast Marine Drive and Northeast 122nd Avenue.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers responded to the scene at approximately 8:01 a.m. after reports of a vehicle crashing through a guardrail and overturning into a shallow section of the Columbia River. First responders, including Portland Fire & Rescue, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office River Patrol, and the U.S. Coast Guard, found the vehicle on its side, but initially located no one inside.

After an extensive search, Soto Briceno's body was later recovered from the river. The Major Crash Team (MCT) was called in to investigate due to the fatal nature of the collision. Authorities are continuing to look into the circumstances leading up to the crash.
