Two DUII-Related Crashes Rock Northeast Portland: Police Investigating Serious Injuries and Hit-and-Run

Two separate car accidents in Northeast Portland early Sunday morning involved suspected alcohol impairment, leaving one man with life-threatening injuries and a 17-year-old juvenile arrested for multiple criminal charges. Portland Police are continuing to investigate both incidents.

Hit-and-Run Crash at MLK Jr. Boulevard and Prescott Street

The first crash occurred at approximately 12:05 a.m. near the intersection of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Prescott Street. According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers arrived at the scene to find a three-vehicle collision. One of the drivers, operating a 2019 Mercedes-Benz, fled the scene on foot, failing to provide assistance to the injured or exchange insurance and contact information as required under Oregon law.

A short time later, the suspect—identified as a 17-year-old male juvenile from Portland—was escorted back to the scene by his father. He was detained and referred to the Juvenile Division of the Multnomah County Circuit Court on charges of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (Alcohol), Reckless Driving, and Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver to Injured Persons. At least one individual from the crash was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

He was transported by ambulance with life-threatening injuries.

Medical personnel were later able to stabilize the man, and his injuries are now believed to be survivable. Investigators suspect that both speed and alcohol impairment were contributing factors in the crash, which remains under active investigation.
