Portland police are investigating a crash that left a bicyclist critically injured early Saturday, July 11.
According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers responded around 2:30 a.m. after a collision involving a Toyota Avalon and a bicyclist. Police said the rider fell underneath the vehicle and suffered critical injuries that were described as possibly life-threatening.
Portland Fire & Rescue removed the bicyclist from under the vehicle, and paramedics took the adult male to the hospital by ambulance. Police said they did not yet have a prognosis.
Investigators said the driver got out of the Toyota and left the scene before officers arrived. The driver was not immediately located.
Police said they secured the scene, collected evidence, and interviewed witnesses. The investigation is continuing under case number 26-200834.
Crashes like this often raise questions about insurance coverage, evidence preservation, and medical documentation. For injured riders and families, early records from the scene and the hospital can matter later, especially when a driver leaves before police arrive.
