Fatal Motorcycle Collision in Northeast Portland
At approximately 6:25 p.m. on May 27, Portland police officers from the North Precinct responded to an injury crash near the intersection of Northeast 57th Avenue and Northeast Tillamook Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a motorcyclist—later identified as Marin—had collided with a parked vehicle.
Marin sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The Portland Police Bureau’s Major Crash Team responded to the scene and is conducting a full investigation to determine the cause of the incident. Roads in the vicinity were closed for several hours as police conducted their inquiry.
Legal and Safety Considerations in Motorcycle Accidents
This incident underscores the dangers motorcyclists face on urban streets, where visibility, street conditions, and roadway design all play critical roles in crash risk. In Oregon, motorcycle riders are particularly vulnerable because they lack the structural protections of enclosed vehicles.
When a motorcyclist is injured or killed in a single-vehicle crash involving a parked car, questions may arise about whether roadway conditions or third-party negligence contributed to the collision. Although details have not been released about the specific circumstances of Marin’s crash, similar incidents may involve legal issues such as motorcycle accident injury claims, wrongful death claims, or premises liability if the parked vehicle posed an unusual hazard.
In Oregon, family members of someone killed in an accident may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim if another party’s negligence contributed to the death. This includes situations where poor visibility, improperly parked vehicles, or street design may have created dangerous conditions.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have not released further information about the circumstances surrounding the crash. The Portland Police Bureau has asked that anyone with information about the incident contact the Traffic Investigations Unit at crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov (opens in a new tab) and reference case number 25-139551.
As the community mourns the loss of Aaron S. Marin, this accident serves as a solemn reminder of the importance of roadway safety—for all users, including motorcyclists, pedestrians, and drivers.
