According to a preliminary investigation by the Oregon State Police, Cortez was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when a Jackson County Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Unfortunately, Cortez did not comply, leading to a collision with the trailer of the Peterbilt, operated by 28-year-old Gurjunder Singh of Yuba City, California.
