Fatal Oregon Crashes Highlight Dangers on State Highways

Klamath County, Oregon | February 6, 2025 - Two devastating crashes occurred on Oregon highways last Sunday, causing significant loss of life and highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety in the region.

The first incident took place on U.S. 97 near milepost 249 in Klamath County. Wyonna Elaine Weiser, 38, of Chiloquin, was driving a green Ford Expedition southbound when the vehicle unexpectedly slid sideways into the northbound lane. This led to a collision with a northbound white Ford F-350, driven by Franklin Scott Maricle, 31, of Bend. Unfortunately, passengers Winnie Mae Hescock and Laurice Lee Foster lost their lives instantly, while Weiser and another passenger, Wauseka Brown Jr., sustained severe injuries.

Remarkably, Maricle and his young passengers, two boys aged 21 months and 13 months, escaped the accident without injury. Oregon State Police, with the assistance of local emergency services, are investigating the cause of this crash, which necessitated the closure of the highway for about an hour.

Later that day, another tragic accident unfolded on U.S. 26 at Haley Road in Clackamas County. A silver GMC Envoy driven by 79-year-old Richard Allan Kerron collided with a gold Toyota Camry, resulting in Kerron’s death. His passenger, Erlita Jean Kerron, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The crash also affected a third vehicle, a gold Toyota Solara driven by Austin Christopher Moore, although neither Moore nor the Camry’s driver, Derek Lorenz, were injured.
