Portland police say the driver accused of striking and killing pedestrian Anthony Boyd on December 12, 2025, has been arrested and charged. According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers arrested Mary G. Rust, 32, of Portland, on January 21, 2026, during a traffic stop in Northeast Portland.
Police said Rust was lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center on an arrest warrant for second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and failure to perform the duties of a driver. The bureau said the investigation is still open.
The original crash happened on December 12, 2025, at about 3:04 p.m. in the 8700 block of Northeast Prescott Street, in the Sumner neighborhood. Officers and paramedics found a man dead at the scene, and police said the driver left before officers arrived. The Medical Examiner later determined Boyd, 63, died of homicide by blunt force trauma.
Boyd’s family notified police that he lived in Portland and asked for privacy after his death. Investigators are still asking anyone who saw the crash, or who has surveillance video, to contact homicide tips at the Portland Police Bureau and reference case number 25-339849.
